Lesser Known Destinations to Include in Your List of Places to See in Andaman

The Andaman Islands delight nature lovers and adventurists, while the average tourist remains awestruck by its magnificent natural beauty. Visiting the well-known places across the islands is an easy way to spend time among the laps of nature while soaking in the sunshine and relaxing on the pristine beaches. But to discover the islands from a different perspective, you must know the places to see in Andaman, which generally does not figure in the bucket list of the average traveller. These places are inviting for the adventure-loving folks ready to bear some hardships to reach the destinations less travelled.

Lesser Known Places to See in Andaman

To enjoy the quiet but thrilling environs of flora and fauna of Andaman, you must reach some places that do not usually figure in the list of conventional tourist places in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Chidiya Tapu, Wandoor, and Wimberley Gunj Waterfalls are destinations that can make you feel overjoyed. Although not many people know these destinations, being there is an experience of a lifetime because of the adventure-filled journey you must undertake to reach these places.

    Chidiya Tapu

Chidiya Tapu might not be a well-known tourist spot in Andaman, but it’s a beautiful destination for nature lovers, especially bird watchers. With the thick greenery of the evergreen forests in the background and the tranquil sea water kissing the sandy white beaches, Chidiya Tapu is an ideal place in South Andaman to enjoy the breathtaking views of the sun setting beyond the sea. The splendour of the changing colours of the sky from blue to orange and then grey as dusk sets in is a feat for the eyes and a photographer’s delight. Several types of colourful birds keep flying around the beach, and the Chidiya Tapu Biological Park is home to many endangered species of animals and birds. Plan for an evening excursion and need to travel 20 km from Port Blair to reach Chidiya Tapu.

    Wimberley Gunj Waterfalls

Viewing a waterfall in Andaman is an enchanting experience for those who search for offbeat locations beyond the beaches and jungles. Although the waterfall is not on the list of the spots covered by the tour operators, it is not much difficult to reach by road or a ferry trip. While the road trip of 30 km from Port Blair airport might be arduous due to poor roads, taking a ferry to sail across the sea provides a fantastic experience. You can view the city from the sea while going past Ross Island on your way to the Wimberley Gunj Waterfalls deep inside the forest. Having a local guide is essential to get the most from the trip.

    Wandoor

Located about 25 km west of Port Blair, Wandoor is the perfect getaway from the overdose of nature and the busy city life of the island’s capital. It might not be one of those much talked about places to see in Andaman, but it’s a charming locale for refreshing your spirits while relaxing in one of the many luxury resorts.
